Pilgrim Street - Bank of England Demolition
Designed by Sir Basil Urwin Spence, the former Bank of England building, located at the bottom of Pilgrim Street next to the Swan House roundabout, has formed an easily recognisable part of Newcastle city centre’s heritage for many years now.
Demolition work on the Bank of England and Bank House buildings begun in autumn 2011 and it seemed to stop for a few months over christmas and now it seems to be back in full swing.
In their place will come a new seven-storey building designed to “put the city back on the business map”. City leaders say they want a flagship building to reverse years of decline in what they believe should be Newcastle’s central business district.

Fantastic documentation of these demolitions works, keep posting them. Don't get to that part of town much so thanks for recording it.
Thanks.
The real shame is that I took a lot of photos of the buildings next door being demolished and I can't seem to find them at the moment!
If I find them I will put them up on here. I pass that part of town once or twice a week so there will be plenty more photos to follow.
what a shame i used to work at the bank and it was a very nice bulding
